La Pinsonniere - Charlevoix, QC: Tucked away in La Malbaie, Quebec at 124 rue Saint-Raphael, La Pinsonniere is a member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux group. It is nestled in a rustic setting that offers spectacular views of the St Lawrence River.
However, we found that the La Pinsonniere is not good as it’s reputation. It is very expensive for what you get – there is no dedicated bellman and the young lady behind the counter had to bring up our bags herself, without using the elevator, because there wasn’t one. Also, the property only had an unimpressive indoor pool. Once in the room, we discovered there was no room service and the only restaurant they had was their high-end property. Having no room service was a shame as it would have been nice to dine out on our balcony overlooking the river.
The restaurant was a pricy affair that just wasn’t worth it. Being the only “eatery”, you are kind of forced to dine there. For a much better dining experience (for a fraction of the cost), you can head on over to Vices Versa which is located just a few minutes away.
Service was far from impressive. When we stayed at Relais & Châteaux properties before, we were treated like royalty. Here we felt like intruders.
The property had potential, but the service and lack of amenities failed. The only saving grace was the great views from the rooms, but other than that, nothing. In all, we rate the La Pinsonniere a most deserved Almost Not Bombastic.
