Le Club Chasse et Pêche is quite the rage in Montreal when it comes to gastronomical delight. Considered as one of the best restaurants in Montreal, the place was also looked upon as a restaurant for fine dining. With rave reviews and constant recommendations, we were looking forward to a meal that was meant to pleasure the palate and satisfy the stomach.

The First Impression: Le Club Chasse et Pêche is a slightly under-ground restaurant and one is taken by surprise at how dark it is inside when stepping in. Owing to it being so popular, we had reserved a table in advance and recommend you to do the same if you are planning on a visit.

Décor and Ambience: The restaurant was a bit dark and casual and does not really evoke a sense of fine dining. The décor at Le Club Chasse et Pêche is done in dark colors adding onto the shadows of the place. The lights are in muted brightness and tables are laid out with dark curved backed chairs that are comfortable to sink into. The walls have a cave-like appearance and you get a feel as though you have entered a secret society where you are given the privilege of feasting on the most delicious food that can be offered.

The Food: Le Club Chasse et Pêche had a lunch menu, a dinner menu and a separate menu for desserts. The menu changes constantly and doesn’t offer a wide selection of food. But we had learnt from our previous visit here that Le Club Chasse et Pêche was more about quality than quantity.

We started our fare with a glass of Pol Roger’s Champagne and oysters on half-shell. Our starter of Seared Scallops with fennel puree and lemon confit served as a perfect dish to help us move from oysters to our main order.

For our main courses, we decided on trying a heavier dish and ordered the Roasted Duck with curry, butternut squash and yogurt and the Suckling Pig with figs, white turnips and truffle. Both the dishes proved to be some of the best we have ever had the privilege of tasting in Montreal. Tender, juicy, succulent and mouth-watering, this was a feast meant for kings.

We ordered a bottle Burgandy; Lignier Lucie et Auguste Gevrey- Chambertin aux Combottes 1er Cru 2004 to complement our delectable meal. The burgundy was the perfect match for our dinners and proved to be a great choice.

As a special treat, our server brought us a complimentary selection of sweets for desserts; pumpkin and maple tart, cranberry crumble, a dark chocolate parfait and a scoop of chestnut ice cream. After having stuffed ourselves with the scrumptious food, we barely had enough space for the desserts and could only sample a bit of each of it while wistfully wishing we could have somehow stuffed them all in.

The Service: The service at Le Club Chasse et Pêche was stellar. Our server, Etheliya, was extremely competent and catered to all our needs perfectly.

The Calculated Impression: Le Club Chasse et Pêche proved to be a treat from heaven. The food and service were completely outstanding and we couldn’t get enough of it. It was very easy for us to deem it one of the best restaurants in Montreal.

What I liked: The out-of-the-world food and service at Le Club Chasse et Pêche.

What I didn’t like: The décor at Le Club Chasse et Pêche.

Rating: Bombastic.
