Geist – Copenhagen, Denmark: The latest addition to Copenhagen’s expanding food scene, Geist is a venture by Danish celebrity chef Bo Bech. Prior to opening Geist, Bo Bech had won a Michelin star while running Restaurant Paustian. Located in the chic Kongens Nytorv square, Geist serves Scandinavian cuisine with a modern touch in a relaxing atmosphere. Reservations are recommended here as this restaurant is even crowded on weekdays.

Geist’s spacious interior follows a Nordic design with dark tones. This modern restaurant has a large bar area and an open kitchen. The open kitchen at the center of the restaurant allows diners to watch the chefs in action. Roomy sofas give this restaurant an informal and comfortable atmosphere.

We visited Geist on a Wednesday evening and to our surprise the place was packed. Lounge music was playing in the background. A staff member greeted us and took our coat while another showed us to our place. We sat at the "bar" with views of the kitchen. Though the lighting was a bit low, the atmosphere was cozy and the music at a level that enabled us to talk to each other without having to share intimate details with the people sitting next to us.

The menu at Geist changes every week. Some of the specialties at Geist are the avocado and caviar starter, airy tiramisu and beetroot crème brûlée. I found it difficult to choose a dish as there were a number of good choices on the menu. I finally decided to have mash potatoes with king crab while my partner ordered deer. My dish was delicious, both to look at and to eat. My partner was also very satisfied with his dish. Both dishes were served on exquisite ceramic dishes.

Geist has an extensive wine list. A good range of wines are also available by the glass. We ordered glasses so that we could try a couple of different wines. Geist definitely has wines to suit every wallet. A splendid view of the wine cellar is available from the restroom; a site you must see!

Service at Geist was welcoming, polite and charming. The dishes were priced a bit on the higher side, without being outrageous.

Overall, Geist offered us a great dining experience. The food was tasty and the surroundings and service were top notch. We look forward to visiting Geist again as we want to try more dishes from Bo Bech.
