Okashi Japanese Restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Hotel - Cairo, Egypt: Okashi is a small Japanese restaurant located in the Grand Hyatt Cairo Hotel at the Garden City Corniche and considered by some to serve the best sushi in Cairo. The design is minimal and contemporary, with mostly glass and wooden furniture. A glass wall on one side provides a wonderful view of the Nile. Ten small tables are neatly arranged with teppanyaki grills, providing an intimate setting for a casual and fun group lunch.

We went to Okashi hoping to sample some fresh sushi with refreshing sake to wind down on a particularly hot and tiring day in Cairo. But when we got there, we found out they did not serve alcohol. As it turned out, the hotel had a “dry” policy. They only served alcoholic drinks by Room Service and at the Lounge Bar on the 40th floor, as well as the Revolving Restaurant on the 41st floor. They do not serve it in the mini-bar in the rooms either.

We drove across town here for sushi and a drink but once when we found out that they didn’t serve alcohol in most of their restaurants, we headed back across town (which in Cairo in not a simple thing) to Haiku Japanese Restaurant at The Fairmont Heliopolis. As such, we were not able to try the food at Okashi Japanese Restaurant at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Cairo and are unable to give it a rating.
