W Hotel Opera - Paris, France: The first W hotel in France, the W Paris - Opera is located near the Garnier Opera House in central Paris. Situated in an elegant Haussman-era heritage building, this hotel has 91 stylishly decorated guest rooms and suites.

Massive columns and marble floors blend in with new age Parisian style furnishings at the W Paris Opera. Our suite was spacious and uber trendy. However, the layout was a bit odd, with the living cum sitting room tiny and dark and the bedroom (actually located on the other side of the wall) large and filled with light from the numerous windows. Complimentary toiletries from Bliss were available in the small yet stylish bathroom. The W Paris Opera also offers a restaurant serving international cuisine, a bar/lounge serving cocktails and a 24-hour fitness center.

Service at this hotel was mixed. While the housekeeping staff and the concierge offered top notch service, room service was very very slow. Moreover, they had run out of items on the menu and the staff did not inform us of this when we were placing the order and simply replaced our order for French fries with a salad. If I had wanted a salad I would have ordered a salad instead, wouldn’t I?

Also, the young lady at the front desk who promised to call us when our room was ready was full of attitude. When we went to check the status of our room after waiting for almost three hours(it should have been ready in an hour), we found out that the room had been ready for a long time. When I asked her why she hadn’t called us, her response was “well, Chris, that’s just how it is”. I was quick to tell her that maybe that’s how you do it here, but that is definitely not good service!

Overall, the W Paris Opera offers lovely rooms in a great location. However, the inconsistent service makes us give this hotel an Almost Bombastic rating.
