What sets Sale e Tabacchi apart from the many Italian restaurants in Berlin is its casual setting. The restaurant is more laid back compared to the more elegant Italian restaurant Bocca de Bacco. Click here to read our restaurant review of Bocca de Bacco in Berlin.

The place has a very relaxed ambiance that would surely make you reminiscent of a typical Italian restaurant in Rome or Florence. This spacious Italian restaurant in Berlin was decorated with dark wooden chairs and tables lined with clean white table cover which reminded me of a traditional restaurant in Italy.

For our meals, I ordered their Spaghetti Vongole Veraci which was spaghetti with clams and drizzled over with virgin olive oil and pepper. This dish was simple and typical Italian spaghetti but there was nothing extraordinary with the dish.

My partner, on the other hand, had Petto di Anatra in Salsa All’Arancia, a duck’s breast served with fresh orange fruits and sauce. There was nothing spectacular with this dish too but the duck’s breast was cooked very well.

Both dishes were served with big portions and it made us full in no time so we just ordered one dessert to share. We had their Tartufo Al Cioccolato Oder Cassata Siciliana, it was Sale e Tabacchi’s version of chocolate truffles. Nothing special with the dessert but it tasted fair.

The service at the Italian restaurant in Berlin was just average despite the waiters looking formal with bow ties and crisp white attire. Yet, we felt like they forgot about us a number of different times.

Generally, Sale e Tabacchi is a place I’d probably go back for a casual lunch but not for a fancy and nice dinner.

What I didn’t like: Average service
