Luxury, 36-Villa Resort - Bombastic

Amanusa Resort - Bali, Indonesia - Located 15 minutes drive from Densepar, Bali's international airport, sits one of the most beautiful resorts in Bali, Amanusa Resort, complete with an unbelievably large pool, private beach and European feel. I had not heard of Aman Resorts before, so I was happy to have found them, and anxious to see what they were all about.

First Impression/Lobby - From the moment we called to make reservations, which in this case was the morning we wanted to check-in, I knew we were in good hands. Even though they were at capacity, they were able to rearrange things and help us get the room we really wanted, The Pool Villa. There are only thirty-five thatched-roofed villas at the resort, of which only eight are Pool Villas, so securing the villa for us was no easy feat.

Amanusa provides complimentary pick-up and, sans the Rolls in Hong Kong, I have never experienced such beautiful service. Yes, it was a standard, run-of-the-mill car, but within moments of being in it, we were offered refreshments (water, both still and sparkling, beer, soda, nuts and a cold cloth plus a menu of available CDs so we could pick music for our short drive from the Four Seasons Jimbaran, about twenty minutes away. Was I impressed? Yes, very!

The Villa - Simple beauty. A beautiful four-poster bed, hardwood floors, huge glass doors with a great view, a small seating area inside, a covered daybed outside and of course, the standard five-star bathroom; twin basin sinks, a huge soaking tub, indoor and outdoor showers, lots of closet space and to complete any room, luxurious robes and slippers.

The one negative about the room was the placement of the dining table; in the front courtyard by the entrance, a rather odd and unattractive place for it. Overall, the room was perfect. The only difference between a Villa and the Pool Villa was the pool itself. The size, design and layout of the villas were exactly the same.

Room Service - Like everything else at Amanusa Resort, Room Service was consistently flawless. Whether it was a from the menu or a special request, it was perfect. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, perfect.

As with most luxury and 5-star hotels and resorts, Amanusa offered an in-villa, romantic dinner. I have done this at many resorts before but never, and I mean never, have I had an experience like the one Amanusa surprised us with. I will not ruin the surprise for you, but I will only tell you if you have a Pool Villa, you must, must, must, plan a romantic dinner. It is an evening you will never forget.

Concierge - Because Amanusa only has 35 villas, there is not a full time concierge, but do not worry. One call to reception and anything you need is taken care of. Service at Amanusa is beyond compare. My only complaint would be we wanted to charter a boat for a day and the company the reserved for us was one that they had never used before and our trip was a complete disaster. The General Manager apologized and said the charter company's owner had such a good reputation with his other businesses in Bali that he thought their boat charter would have been great.

Overall Impression Overall Impression - Amanusa Resort is a truly unique resort. Luxury, service, class all in an atmosphere of relaxed, feel at home surroundings.

Their attention to detail and their personal service are just the finishing touches at this small, luxury, boutique resort. Whether its the trust they build by not making you sign for anything or making a special trip to the store, at no additional cost, to get me batteries to the General Manager stopping to ask how things are (at least three times) or the Executive Chef coming to see us in our villa during our romantic dinner to make sure everything was perfect, it all just felt natural for them, it all was bombastic!

If you get to Bali, this is a place you must visit. I know if I get back to Bali, I will stay with them again. And, when I book my next trip, I will be looking for an Aman Resort.
