The Ulitimate in Luxury
Bulgari Hotel and Resort - Bali, Indonesia - The 59 villa, Bulgari Resort in Bali is located on the islands far southwestern tip, near the village of Pecatu, high atop a mountain cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. Down below is a one mile-long beach, which is accessible only by the resorts inclined elevator, which unfortunately, was not working during my stay.
First Impression/Lobby - The open-air welcome lobby lets you know immediately that you are somewhere special. With a beautiful view overlooking the resort and down to the ocean your cares just seem to melt away.

We arrived before our villa was available so we took advantage of that opportunity to tour the property. Everywhere you looked, there was beauty; the people, the scenery, the ocean, the mountain, the villas, the resort, stunning beauty is all you saw. We ended our tour at Sangkar, their all day, casual dining restaurant, located on the cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean. There we enjoyed a welcome drink, cold towels and a breathtaking view. Once our room was available, we were escorted to our villa where we completed our registration. What a perfect start, a perfect stay.
The Villa - Keeping pace with everything I had seen so far, the Sea Cliff Villa exuded style and class. A fusion of traditional Balinese architecture and decor with an Italian flare made it purely decadent. The large bedroom with its just as large windows offered an expansive view of the ocean. The back of the villa housed the over-sized bathroom with extra large soaking tub, glassed walls with views of the garden, both indoor and outdoor showers, twin basin sinks, a separate bathroom and of course Bulgari products every where you looked.
Outside, next to the private plunge pool and sun deck sat the covered living area, complete with casual dining area and overstuffed couch just right for a lazy afternoon nap or kicking back to read a book.
Restaurant - II Ristorante, the resorts 36-seat signature restaurant is open only for dinner and offers classical Italian dining in a serene, lantern lit atmosphere. The service, the wine list and the food were as you expect from a 5 star restaurant in Italy, flawless.
Room Service - If there were an area for improvement at Bulgari Hotel and Resort, it would be in the service. When we arrived, we were told we had a butler who would be available to help make our stay enjoyable. The first time we had in-room dining our butler was the one who came, set it up and took care of everything. After that one encounter, we never saw "our" butler again. When we called the "butler service'" we had a different person answering the phone and then another person delivering the food or running the errand for us. The whole "butler service" either was oversold to us or was poorly managed. Had they just called it room service it would have lived up to our expectations and we would have been just as happy.
Overall Impression - My overall impression of The Bulgari Hotel and Resort in Bali is that yes, they definitely are a 5 star, luxury hotel however, to compete with the other 5 star hotels and resorts on Bali they will need to step up the service. I think in part because they are still fairly new, having just opened last year, they need to fine tune a few things and they will be able to compete head to head with the likes of Amanusa - Bali and The Four Seasons - Sayan. Is Bulgari a place I would recommend? Yes, of course, but I would strongly recommend the aforementioned as well.
