Beautiful but not up to Four Season's Standards

Four Seasons Resort - Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia

First Impression/Lobby - After staying at Bulgari Resort and Four Seasons Resort Sayan, the Four Seasons Jimbaran had big shoes to fill and between the lobby and their welcome, it lead me to believe that they were going to struggle to fill them.

Reception - Checking in was fast and efficient but the warmth and welcome we had experienced the last three days at Four Seasons Resort Sayan was nowhere in sight. Vincent, the resort manager, greeted us but even his welcome felt forced and insincere.

The Villa - The Sea Cliff Villa was gorgeous, beautifully decorated with a fantastic view of Jimbaran Bay. Our villa was smaller than the villas we had stayed in so far in Bali, but nonetheless, gorgeous. The plunge pool, aptly named, was perfect for cooling off. The covered living area was small but designed and decorated to give a very cozy and comfortable feeling.

Room Service - Somewhere, somehow, Room Service forgot the meaning of service. It was slow, inaccurate and at times, clueless.

Concierge - We called the concierge about hiring a boat for a private tour. I explained exactly what I was looking for; private charter to include cruising around the island, some snorkeling, maybe some fishing, a private beach, a nice lunch, just total relaxation on a beautiful boat. The information we got back, after more than three hours of waiting patiently, was pricing for a scuba diving trip. Service like that is simply disheartening.

Spa - Unattractive, plain, boring. You would imagine that any spa in Bali would ooze romance, class, beauty or style but the spa at Four Seasons Resort Jimbaran oozed only sterility and monotony.

Restaurants - Four Seasons Resort Jimbaran has four restaurants to choose from; Taman Wantilan specializing in Indonesian, Warung Mie with Asian noodle dishes, Pool Terrace Cafe' for light lunches and PJ's specializing in seafood, pasta and wood fired pizzas. In search a larger selection than noodles or Indonesian, we chose PJ's. The menu was varied but not extensive. Service was not what you would expect at a five star resort like Four Seasons but more like you would get at a very commercial three or four-star hotel.

Overall Impression - With its beautiful setting on the cliff over-looking Jimbaran Bay, the Four Seasons has a lot of potential. However, it is sorely lacking the warmth the Balinese are known for and the service that most of the Four Seasons consistently deliver. The Four Seasons Jimbaran feels like a large, overly commercial resort; cold and impersonal, the exact opposite of what makes a resort bombastic.
