De Pisis, the restaurant at the Bauer Il Palazzo offers gourmet Venetian and Mediterranean cuisine. The main attraction of this hotel restaurant in Venice is its splendid terrace that overlooks the Grand Canal. De Pisis is located ideally on the water’s edge.

De Pisis has a charming Venetian décor. This Venice restaurant offers two lovely dining spaces, one indoors and the second one outdoors. The indoor dining room is beautifully furnished and decorated in an extravagant style. This room provides an intimate and private atmosphere. The outdoor dining area on the terrace is equally well appointed. The enchanting terrace offers a spectacular view of the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Salute in the distance and is open from the beginning of spring to late autumn.

The Mediterranean cuisine served at De Pisis has an Asian influence. The restaurants signature dishes include cartoccio of homemade spaghetti with fish in curry essence and meat baked turbot with bread beer cream & asparagus in balsamic vinegar.

It was a gorgeous afternoon. So we decided to sit outside on the deck and take in the just as gorgeous views of the Grand Canal. We shared an appetizer of pappardelle with seafood, saffron and beans. It was good and the fish was fresh. But it lacked that extra something that would have made this dish an outstanding one. For our main course, we had the sea bass baked in salt crust with potatoes, tomatoes and olives. Again, the fish was good, but it definitely lacked that wow factor. This dish surely was not as good as some of the similar dishes we have had in the south of Italy before.

Dessert was another big disappointment. While I ordered the chocolate cake with milk and mint ice cream, my partner opted for the wild berry pie with pistachio ice cream. Both desserts tasted commercial and lacked any freshness and interesting flavors. In short, I have had better desserts from a supermarket.

Service started out well. Unfortunately, we had come during a shift change. So by the time we were done we had three different servers, each being less attentive than the first.

Other than the view, this Venice restaurant did not have a whole lot going on for itself. Uncomfortable chairs, decent main dishes, disappointing desserts and just barely adequate service gives this restaurant a Between Bombastic and Not rating.
