The La Giara Restaurant offers authentic regional Italian cuisine set in a breathtaking atmosphere that indulges all the senses. The restaurant is largely an upscale dining affair complete with an exceptional wine list and a corkage charge should you wish to bring in your own spirits.

We arrived on time, and we were impressed by the restaurant's layout: a clean, all white motif spanning three floors containing the restaurant itself and a disco. We opted to have dinner at the third floor where we were offered a grand view of the sea and city below us. The table we were given was immaculate, with crisp linen and beautiful china.

For our first course, a Sicilian specialty, fish wrapped foil with a tomato-base soup. It was hardly anything to write home about, and our main course was similarly unimpressive; it was a baked fish that wasn't even fresh. To cap off our dinner, we had a dessert of strawberry mousse and ice cream with almonds, hardly groundbreaking if you ask me.

On a more positive note, La Giara Restaurant had an exquisite wine list. The sommelier did a good job of recommending us wine during the early part of dinner, but at the time we were having dessert we could not find him. We had to settle for the recommendation of another waiter who referred us to a terribly sweet wine. This error of service seems to stem from problems within their staff, as at various points during our dinner, members of the staff were on the opposite end of the restaurant audibly arguing with each other.

Although gorgeous and trendy at its surface, La Giara Restaurant leaves much to be desired as regards their menu and service. I'm rating this between Bombastic and Not Bombastic for the reasons above.
