Ristorante Tre Scalini - Rome, Italy: Dining in Rome is usually equivalent to eating something Italian; since you are there, you are going to want to have a 100% authentic Italian dining experience, right? We hoped Ristorante Tre Scalini was a restaurant that offered true Italian food and an ambience that you can only get while you are in Rome.

We arrived at the restaurants with high spirits and equally high expectations. What we found when we entered the restaurant was a lot of tourists. There were so many tourists in fact that the place almost seemed like an attraction itself! Service wasn't so bad, but when we were seated, we noticed that the menu did not exactly place itself as a cut above all the other cookie-cutter tourist trap restaurants here in Rome.

We ordered our usual pasta, and we got nothing spectacular out of it: It was a safe tasting dish that didn't bring anything new to the table. I was so underwhelmed by its flavor and presentation that it only further girded my belief that the Ristorante Tre Scalini is really a place for tourists and novice visitors to Rome.

We rated this restaurant somewhere between being Bombastic and Not, mainly because it wasn't anything special. The mediocrity of the food and the generally bland tourist ambience did not give us anything great to write home about.
