A must when in the Amalifi Coast
Restaurant Category : Italian
Taverna del Capitano - Nerano, Itlay: We hired a boat from Sorrento to take us out for a tour along the Amalfi Coast and we stopped for lunch at the Taverna del Capitano, a small family restaurant made out of an ancient fishermen house, located in the historic center of Marina del Cantone. We were not prepared for what was to come.
The maître d' met us at the boat and escorted us to the restaurant. The place was casual but had an ambiance of classic elegance. It was absolutely gorgeous and immediately I knew that this was a true 5-star restaurant. Although we came straight off the boat in just shorts and t-shirts, we felt right at home.

The menu was unique, serving local cuisine and Mediterranean staples, and the wine list extensive. They had a cellar that looked like a ship, well-stocked with both local and international wines.
To start, we had raw fish platter—Fish eggs, shrimp, oysters, and raw sea urchin which was surprisingly delicious. For my second course, I had their eggplant pasta; while I am not a big fan of eggplant I was simply blown away by how well-prepared and flavorful the dish was. For the main dish, we had the fish soup and sea bass, both refreshing and absolutely sumptuous.
Service was impeccable—friendly, not invasive, knowledgeable, kind and exceptional.
If you find yourself anywhere near the Amalfi area, the Taverna del Capitano is an absolute must. It is simply Fantastic Bombastic!
