Beautiful Building, Average Lebanese Food
Al-Sanawbar Lebanese Restaurant – Salmiya, Kuwait: Located in a beautiful building along the Gulf, Al-Sanawbar is the newest Lebanese restaurant in Kuwait and an exciting and relaxing place to have lunch (for the interiors and view alone). We visited this much talked about restaurant with high expectations and the moment we walked in, I was already impressed and blown away with the classy interior—earthy, minimal, and sublime. It was simply stunning.
The dining room was split into sections by large glass walls that flowed with water. On one area were bleached wood tables and chairs accented with powder green pillows, and on another side were dark wood tables and chairs contrasted with beige accents. Huge picture windows looked out to the gulf and gave the restaurant a light and airy feel to it.
There was also a large dining area outside furnished with plain brown tables and faux wicker chairs that did not match the beauty of the inside. I imagine that it would be a hugely popular venue for smoking sheesha though. Overall, the restaurant just screamed upscale, class and elegance. Unfortunately, the food and service did not live up to the décor as we soon found out.
We ordered a variety of Lebanese dishes including Hummus, Moutabal, Mausakaa Eggplant, Warrak Enab, Tabbouleh, Fattouch, Arayess, and Mashawi Meshakaleh. I can honestly say that there was not one dish (not even the salads) that I thought was excellent or even “good enough.” What a huge disappointment! Service was adequate at best, and the presentation did not live up to the class and elegance of the restaurant either.
Al-Sanawbar is a gorgeous restaurant no doubt about it. It just completely misses the mark for great Lebanese food in Kuwait. My rating for Al-Sanawbar Lebanese Restaurant in Kuwait is Between Bombastic and Not.
