Plaza Athenee Hotel - Kuwait - Plaza Athenee opened its doors in November 2006. I stayed at the hotel during its soft opening and returned again after it was officially opened. Located just minutes from downtown Kuwait City and with beautiful views of the Arabian Gulf, Plaza Athenee is a welcome addition to Kuwait.
Plaza Athenee is a small hotel so doesn't have all the amenities that one would find at a large hotel. However, their service more than makes up for it.
As you pull into the driveway and are greeted by one of the bellman it is then you begin to realize that the hotel is dedicated to service. As you check into the hotel you receive a true warm welcome and you can tell that it comes from the heart.
My room, a junior suite, was beautifully decorated with browns and golds and had a beautiful wood floor that added to its elegance. The furniture was tastefully chosen, not overdone as I've seen in some Middle Eastern hotels.
The room came complete with a small kitchenette, however it was not stocked with pots or pans and keeping housekeeping from removing the few dishes that I had requested stay in the room was a bit of chore.
The coffee shop on the first floor offered a small array of pastries and drinks available either delivered to your room or in their dining area. The restaurant on the top floor was not open yet, but is scheduled to open in the spring.
Like the restaurant, the pool has not been put in yet, however from the look of the rest of the hotel I have a feeling the pool area will be beautiful.
Yes, it's true that this is a small hotel without all the amenities one would normally want, but the service, and the heartfelt warm welcome more than makes up for it.
Whether you are in Kuwait for a day, a week or even longer make Plaza Athenee your home away from home, you will not regret it.
