Viaggio Italian Restaurant – Salmiya, Kuwait: To prepare good Italian food is an art that needs to be mastered. The Viaggio Italian Restaurant located on the Gulf Road opposite to the Cornish Club is one of the eateries at Crowne Plaza, right adjacent to Sakura. This hotel claims to offer great Tuscan style cooking and can be found on the 1st floor. Having heard favorable reviews about Viaggio Italian Restaurant, we were interested to inspect it for ourselves.

The First Impression: The Viaggio Italian Restaurant seemed to be cozy and very pretty in décor. But being open to the Sakura restaurant, the charm of the place was diminished.

Décor and Ambience: The inside of Viaggio Italian Restaurant was very trendy and chic. With modern Italian influences with a touch of the charm of Florence apparent in the décor and styling, the end result is quite impressive. The base shades of the restaurants are in muted tones and this is offset by in-lit walls, beautifully etched wall parts, a blue-lit bar, hollowed lights in the ceiling and gorgeous light-holds. The tables were aesthetically arranged and well spaced.

The Food: The menu offered at Viaggio Italian Restaurant gave many options for appetizers, first course and more. We started with the thin crust pepperoni pizza which was absolutely delicious. Warm and baked to perfection, the crust melted in our mouths and the flavors were bursting with aroma and delicacy. We followed this up with an order of spicy seafood pasta with mussels and shrimps for me and spicy penne pasta with chicken in a pink sauce for my dining partner. Both the dishes were good and quite appetizing but not great.

The Service: The service at Viaggio Italian Restaurant was very attentive and professional. The hiccup was that the kitchen was an open kitchen and there was too much smoke blowing our way from the oven and it was quite an uncomfortable feat to have to endure and eat in such an ambience. There is a 15% service charge that the restaurant adds to their bill.

The Calculated Impression: We had a quite a nice time at the Viaggio Italian Restaurant on the whole. The food could have been a bit better and the incident with the smoke interrupting our meal stopped us from rating it Bombastic.

What I liked: The décor and service at the Viaggio Italian Restaurant.

What I didn’t like: The open-kitchen that allowed for smoke to blow into the restaurant.

Rating: Between Bombastic and Not.
