Huvafen Fushi Resort - Maldives - The word that comes to mind when I think of the Huvafen Fushi is disappointment. Disappointment in the service, the accommodations, the food, the island itself. Complete disappointment.

We arrived at Huvafen after four days at The One and Only - Maldives so we were comparing everything to Fantastic Bombastic and I can honestly say Huvafen fell short.

The resort has only been open a few years but it sure looks weathered and worn. The floors in the rooms are scuffed and faded, the speakers on the deck rusted and corroded, the room just felt dingy and dirty.

The lounge bar was described as "chic" and "trendy", however to me, plastic lighted stools and bean bag chairs screams cheap and tacky not chic and trendy.

How could we be disappointed with a private dinner prepared especially for us by the resort's executive chef? She even met with us earlier in the day to discuss our culinary likes and dislikes as well as wine pairings. We were excited at what she had in store!

As with everything else at Huvafen (except the spa) we were extremely disappointed. Our private dinner in the wine cellar was the biggest rip off of the trip. We felt as though they had taken full advantage of us. The food was barely mediocre and the service was lacking, lacking, lacking. The chef did not even bother to come down and see how we were doing or how we were enjoying our dinner. It sure felt like dinner had been prepared in advance and just warmed and served to us. We suspect she was off at someone else's "private dinner" off-site.

I could go on with how Huvafen let us down but I'll save you the time and sum it up with this is a resort trying to compete in the luxury market but they don't come close to measuring up. If you want service and top of the line accommodations, keep looking, this place will just let you down. My recommendation, try The One and Only - Maldives or the Hilton Rangali, those two places are Bombastic!
