Marriott Hotel - Manila, Philippines | Hotel Review
An unpleasant respite with slow, unprofessional service.
After flying in from Abu Dhabi, we landed in Manila around 11 PM and were scheduled to catch a flight the next day to Amanpulo. We decided to book ourselves into a hotel and decided on the Marriott Hotel located in Newport City across Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. With 342 guest accommodations, the hotel boasts of having exclusive services and offerings for its guests. We decided to inspect this claim and see how much of it rang true.

First Impression/Lobby: The less than warm welcome we received from the first bellman we encountered at the Marriott Hotel had us wary of our stay. The bellman looked at us and simply turned away to continue his chat with his friend. Another bellman from the far end rushed to us and looked into our needs. The lobby at the Marriott Hotel was marbled and luxurious with tall ceiling and sleek modern décor.
Reception: The check-in process at the Marriott Hotel was tedious and extremely inefficient. It took about 15 minutes for the whole process in spite of being the only ones with the receptionist.
The Room: We booked the Deluxe Room for our overnight stay. The room at first glance looked trendy and stylish with the duvet, the wall prints, the lamp-stands and the colors used for décor. But underneath the show, it was still a basic double bedroom. The beds claimed to be queen sized, but were in fact not. The room was clean and basic carrying an odd musty smell about it which was quite unpleasant. The bathroom in our room at Marriott Hotel was fitted with a single sink, toilet and a separate room with a shower and a bathtub. The shower and bathtub was not a combo and the whole arrangement seemed quite odd to us. The room also had a work-table and wired internet offered for a fee. Though the room proved sufficient for a night it is not a place I would have spent more time in.
Room Service: The room service at Marriott Hotel was appalling. We placed an order for a quick late-night dinner as we were hungry and tired after our long flight. We were surprised to be told that the food would take 20-40 minutes to reach us. To our dismay it actually took a good 50 minutes or a bit more to reach us. To make matters worse the food was just mediocre and not worth the time we spent waiting for it.
Housekeeping: The room, apart from the musty smell, was well-maintained and was clean and spruced. Since we were there just for one night, this is the only impression of the housekeeping we were able to gather.
Restaurant: The Marriott Hotel has a few restaurants and lounges for guests looking at having a meal or a quick drink. Cru Steakhouse offers grilled meat and steaks and is open for dinner while the Marriott Café open for breakfast, lunch and dinner offers buffet and a-la-carte menu for its guests. The Lounge at the hotel lobby open for breakfast, lunch and dinner offers sandwiches and beverages and Java+ is a deli offering gourmet coffee, baked bread and pastries and other short eats.
Pool/Spa/Activities: The Marriott Hotel has a fitness center offering all facilities needed for a workout. Guests can also make use of the outdoor swimming pool and the indoor whirlpool. The Quan Spa offers beauty treatment, massages, therapy and more.
Check-Out: The check-out at Marriott Hotel took more than 20 minutes and was slow and completely inefficient. There was an issue with our bill and it seemed to take forever to have it resolved.
Overall Impression: We found the slow and unprofessional service at the Marriott Hotel quite unsatisfactory. Though it served adequately for an overnight stay, it is not a place we would recommend to others and we rate it Between Bombastic and Not.
