Rima Italian Restaurant at Shangri-La Resort - Boracay, Philippines: Disappointing food and service can damper any great holiday. Having not come across a restaurant that we were impressed by in terms of the culinary servings during our stay at Philippines, we walked into Rima, a Boracay restaurant, with not much expectations. To our surprise, this restaurant veiled amongst the treetops of the Shangri-La resort, proved to be one of the best restaurants in Boracay. Open from October to June every year, this Boracay restaurant was an epitome of rich, delectable food that played an orchestra of great music on our taste buds.

The First Impression: We headed to this Boracay restaurant after a few drinks at the resort bar and were lucky to be seated at a corner table which gave us a great view of the resort. We settled into our seats and could not help but relax and unwind with the great view and comforting ambience.

Décor and Ambience: Rima restaurant was located very well. This Boracay restaurant had a partial outdoor seating area as well as an indoor enclave. With rich wooden paneling for the floors and dark, warm wooden beams forming the ceiling, this Boracay restaurant was sheathed in rich, deep colors of brown and the glow of the cream and gold décor. Curios and flower arrangements of deep colors formed a striking contrast to the cream cushions on the sofa seats and the lights which shone around the restaurant from the lamps. The room spoke of luxury and comfort. The outdoor area was flanked by vivid green tree tops. The rustling of the leaves and the pleasant view was a great add-on to the amazing cuisine that was yet to come.

The Food: The food at this Boracay restaurant turned out to be dishes fit for a king. We started our evening with a gift from the chef; Caprice with mozzarella, tomato and basil. When it came to the time to place our order the number of choices had us confused on what to eat as they all sounded really scrumptious. So we decided to order an array of different dishes and to share them all so as to be able to sample an array of what they had to offer. We ordered scallops as our starter. Cooked in rich butter the dish was absolutely sinful, but as delectable as it was rich. It simply melted in our mouths and all our worries about calories seemed to become a hazy memory. The next dish, risotto with shrimp, was not only as rich as the scallops but as mouth-watering too. Our order of the linguini with lobster was absolutely delicious and as good as the ones we have had at the best restaurants anywhere else. We also had the lamb which was so juicy, tender and perfectly cooked that we couldn’t help but stuff ourselves and devour the whole dish in spite of being stuffed. The wine list at this Boracay restaurant was small and consisted of low-end wines. But you can get a list of very high-end wines if you request for the ‘Coinsurer List’. There was not much of a choice for mid-ranged wines. For dessert we had the tiramisu which was close to some of the best we have had before.

The Service: The service at this Boracay restaurant was very professional and attentive adding onto the quality of the great evening.

The Calculated Impression: After having endured almost a week of pretty average and in some cases downright awful meals, this Boracay restaurant had us completely wowed. The excellent food and the knowledgeable staff were a great add-on to the whole experience of our time spent there. This was a restaurant that we would definitely recommend highly.

What I liked: The great food and service at this Boracay restaurant.

What I didn’t like: The average wine list served at this Boracay restaurant.

Rating: Bombastic.
