Sala Bistro – Manila, Philippines: The search for the perfect dish is a never ending quest. Our great adventure brought us to Sala Bistro, a Manila Restaurant. Having heard about the great food, our taste-buds were ready to savor the cuisine of Sala Bistro. This European styled bistro with its all-day menu seemed to have much to offer.

The First Impression: The Sala Bistro was very stylish. With a modish glass facade greeting us with their lettering, we entered into a restaurant that spoke volumes of casual elegance. We were here for lunch and found ourselves amongst a crowd that consisted of a mix of both locals and expats.

Décor and Ambience: The décor at Sala Bistro was chic and stylish. This was achieved by a simple minimalistic design that was very uber cool. There were lot of mirrors along the wall and the colors used were warm and soft contrasted by the rich, deep colors of the chairs and bar counter. Pretty lampshades decorated the lights and brought about a simple elegance to the room. The white table cloths sat well with the black chairs and were matched by the waiters in their smart black trousers and shirts. The bar was very small but stylized. The Sala Bistro also had an outside sitting area that was gorgeous.

The Food: The food at Sala Bistro was divine. The menu included the all-day menu, the weekend brunch menu, the dessert menu, the wine list and more. We started out with a pizza with goat cheese, garlic and spinach. The delicious crust and the melting toppings made it a perfect first bite. We followed it up with an order of the Carrot, Orange and Ginger soup. The soup was the perfect temperature and rich with the right blend of flavors.

For main course my dining partner opted for the braised lamb shank with green beans and parmesan mash and I chose the Beef bourguignon with creamy mashed potatoes which turned out to be the better of the two choices. The meat was cooked perfectly and was tender and juicy and marinated well.

For dessert we had the Raspberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. Our wine for the afternoon was a 2008 Sons Of Eden Barossa Valley - Grenache / Shiraz. It was peppery and full flavored and really sat well with our food. All-in-all, we had a wonderful meal.

The Service: The service at Sala Bistro was very attentive and friendly. It had no elements of intrusiveness and we enjoyed our afternoon tremendously.

The Calculated Impression: The Sala Bistro left us very impressed and ready to recommend its food and service to others. The simple elegance of the place combined with great food was just what we were looking for.

What I liked: The great food and service and the elegant décor of Sala Bistro.

What I didn’t like: The prices which were slightly on the high-side.

Rating: Bombastic.
