The interior is tastefully decorated, combining local historic sensibilities and modern eclecticism. Their menu focuses mainly on Portuguese cuisine with an Italian influence, using fresh local ingredients to create tried-and-tested favorites, as well as a number of innovative dishes. They change their menu from time to time, which is a good reason to go back again and again and try something new.

We went to Senhora Mae during lunchtime and it was a beautiful sunny afternoon so we decided to sit outside on the wooden-decked patio. Immediately, the staff welcomed us warmly and showed us to our seats.

Our server took our orders with a smile and brought us some bread and olive spread while we waited for our food. For starters, we had a sampling of creamy cheeses that were absolutely delectable, paired with a local Portuguese wine.

For my main dish, I had the salmon with lime juice and spicy avocado salad. I could tell that the fish was caught just hours before it was cooked as it was unbelievably fresh and tasty. The salad was a perfect complement and contrast to the silky texture and milky flavor of the fish.

My experience at Senhora Mae was simply delightful. The food, staff and atmosphere were excellent and made for a well-spent and an unforgettable time. Bombastic!
