Great Moroccan Cuisine
Restaurant Category : Moroccan
Marrakesh Moroccan Restaurant - Kuwait: Marrakesh is located in Ghalya Towers across from plaza that houses Pepi's Pizza, Sakura, Wasabi and Ruby Tuesday's restaurants.
I recently visited Marrakesh, which opened in December 2007, and it instantly became my favorite Moroccan restaurant in Kuwait.

When I walked in, I was greeted by a Moroccan clad (and actual Moroccan) waiter. The atmosphere was unmistakably Moroccan. The furniture was big, heavy pieces, very ornate, very Arabic. There was Moroccan music playing from the speakers high above, the lighting was dark and the dining room was full of foreigners. There are actually three different dining areas, one of which is set aside for families. They also have a couple small dining rooms perfect for private parties.
Their menu was extensive; their choices for Tagine had eight meat, seven chicken and four seafood dishes. They had three couscous options: Moroccan Grill with lamb and chicken, Kufta and liver.
With so many choices, most of which sounded great, I decided to order their set menu so I could try the most. For only 8 KD you had your choice of soup, two appetizers, any Tagine or couscous (1KD more for seafood) and desert with tea. How could I go wrong?
Dinner started with a starter of chicken bastilla, a puffed pastry, stuffed with chicken and almonds with saffron and covered with icing sugar and cinnamon. About the size of a small donut, it was sweet yet meaty. It was the first time I tried something like this, but I hope it wasn't the last. It was scrumptious.
The soup, Harira Marrakesh soup, was like a lentil soup but full of vegetable and meat. It was served with dates and shabbakiya. The soup was full of flavor, a bit filling but wonderful. I would definitely order it again.
My main course, Royal Couscous with chicken, lamb and raisins was some of the best couscous I have had the pleasure of eating. I also tried the Lamb Tagine with plumb and almonds, lamb meat with saffron. It too was remarkable.
Service throughout dinner was perfect and attentive. The waiter was able to answer all my questions and was always a step ahead of me. I could not have asked for more.
Marrakesh is a perfect addition to endless supply of restaurants in Kuwait. It is nice to see a new, but very traditional restaurant added to the mix. Reservations were not needed the evening I was in, but on a weekend, I highly recommend reserving your table.
*****UPDATE***** Sadly, Marrakesh has closed their doors.
