Ceylon Tea Trails - Castlereagh Bungalow - Central Highlands, Sri Lanka | Hotel Review
Lake views unlike all the others.
Castlereagh Bungalow is part of Ceylon Tea Trails, a collection of four colonial era tea planter’s bungalows. Built in 1925, this bungalow is the most eclectic and individual of the lot and is located near Castlereagh Lake in Bogawantalawa Valley, the Golden Valley of Tea. This bungalow features parquet floors and open fireplaces in its sitting and dining rooms.

Castlereagh is nestled in a wooded dell close to the lake. Though we didn’t stay here, we did come here for lunch. The lunch served here was a mix of tea infused dishes and Sri Lankan classics and was simply awesome. The staff was really remarkable and surely made us feel at home.
Castlereagh offers two luxury rooms with views of the lake and three garden suites with a private veranda and private garden. The common living areas were furnished with colonial style wooden desks, regency stripped footstools and open fireplaces. Castlereagh also offers a large swimming pool in a gorgeous setting. A number of summer houses dotted the extensive grounds. A croquet lawn and library were the other attractions.
Castlereagh had the air of a typical English country cottage and offered stunning views of the lake and beyond. I can’t rate it since I didn’t stay here, but based on what I saw and what I experienced, this bungalow would easily get a rating of Bombastic.
