Amala Indian Restaurant at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel – Dubai, UAE: Amala is an Indian fine dining restaurant at the Zabeel Saray Hotel on the West Crescent of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. Located on the right wing of the lobby of the Zabeel Saray, Amala serves authentic North Indian cuisine and is open from 6.00 pm to 1:00 am daily except on Mondays when it is closed.

Amala follows an Indian décor with its cream and gold seating and vibrant wall and floor tiles. The high ceilings, large columns and ornate free standing lanterns lend this Indian restaurant in Dubai a regal and elegant touch.

Amala’s allure lies in its set-price menu that enables diners to order unlimited dishes from the a la carte menu. For 255 AED, about $70.00, a person can eat as many appetizers and main dishes as he wants, a really great way to get a taste of India, I must say.

For appetizers, we had Tawa Kahagoora, Murgh Kathi Kebab, Chokhi Tikki and the Chooza Ke Seek. The Tawa Kahagoora or pan fried scallops seasoned with cumin and coriander were awesome and needless to say over in a jiffy. The Murgh Kathi Kebab featured a combination of roomali roti, chicken, mushroom and pickled mango chutney and was perfectly balanced and delicious. The Chokhi Tikki made from crumb fried potatoes, green peas and black cumin was served next. The Chooza Ke Seek made of chicken, coriander, green chillies, garlic and ginger rounded up this fine array of appetizers. We also tried the Tamatar aur dhaniya ka shorba, a soup made of tomato, cumin and coriander. This soup was fresh and full of flavor.

The main course at Amala started with Rogan josh, an aromatic dish made of lamb, Kashmiri spices, red onion, tomato, yoghurt and nutmeg. Next up was the Goan Jingha Curry, a prawn curry with a spicy blend of curry leaves, onion, coconut milk and spices. The Butter chicken served next was simply stellar and creamy and featured tender pieces of meat in a sauce made of tomato, cashew nut, cream and fresh coriander. The Nali ka gosht made with lamb shank, onion, tomato, black cumin and nutmeg was up next. A lip smacking Prawn Biryani provided a fitting end to the main course.

By the time the dessert menu was presented, we could barely handle much more than a bite or two. The pistachio kulfi (Indian ice cream) and mango sorbet were however sweet and yummy.

The service at this Indian restaurant in Dubai was attentive, cordial and just perfect. Also, the dishes were perfectly portioned, creatively presented and full of flavor. All in all, it was a great night.

Our rating for the Amala restaurant at the Zabeel Saray Hotel is Bombastic.
