The Athenaeum Hotel and Apartments is a family owned five star hotel in Mayfair, the heart of London’s West End. Situated opposite Green Park, this hotel offers easy access to London’s main attractions such as Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Piccadilly Circus, to name a few.

The polished wood and brass fittings in the lobby of Athenaeum exude an air of traditional English elegance. This hotel offers 156 guestrooms and apartments. Most of these offer stunning Mayfair views. While on our way to the Deluxe Room, we checked out the hotel’s Standard Room and found it to be very tiny. In fact, if you have more than one piece of luggage you would feel very cramped in this room.

Our Deluxe Room was larger and offered much more space. Our room was located in a building just outside the main hotel (a minute down the street). It felt a bit odd to leave the hotel in order to go to our room. However, once we were in our room, it did not feel as if we were not in the main hotel.

Our Deluxe Room was extremely clean and luxuriously appointed. The room was equipped with all the modern amenities you would expect from a five star hotel. In addition, free Wi-Fi, water, soft-drinks and “nibbles” were also complementary (something unheard of in most London hotels). The bathroom was appointed with a power shower, bathrobes and toiletries. A full room service menu was also available. The daily housekeeping service even included a nightly turn down service.

The Restaurant at Athenaeum offered an eclectic menu with a variety of fish, seafood and vegetarian options. The Garden Room served afternoon teas while the Study Lounge offered light meals, snacks and afternoon tea. The Whiskey Bar offered an extensive collection of whiskies along with cigars, cocktails, soft drinks and snacks.

The Athenaeum has a Health & Fitness Spa consisting of a12 piece gym, showers, marble steam room, Jacuzzi, beauty treatment room and a sauna. The hotel also offers a business center along with four conference rooms.

Overall, the Athenaeum Hotel delivers attentive service and a range of modern amenities. This luxurious hotel in central London is definitely worth its price. Bombastic!
