Joe’s Café is situated in the basement of Joseph’s, a designer clothing store on Sloane Street. The black and white décor was very simple, yet warm and inviting. The tables were placed quite close together.
We were at Joe’s Café for lunch. The menu was quite simple with a small selection of salads, sandwiches, burgers and pasta. Though there was no wine list, a house wine was on offer. Service throughout brunch was decent.
We started with a fresh salad to share. If it was any indication of what was to come, I would have been thoroughly impressed, it wasn’t though.
Next up was our seafood linguini for me and a Caesar chicken sandwich for my partner. The linguini was fair. What it lacked in seafood it did not make up for in taste. I tried to tell myself we were in the basement of a designer store and not to expect much, but at £19.00, I DID expect more.
My partner’s chicken sandwich was almost as disappointing, especially at £16.00. While it was beautifully presented it lacked any flavor.
Service was attentive, but it was our servers first day on the job and he was obviously nervous and it seemed, not well prepared. Everyone has a first day, but to be charged a £1.00 cover charge per person, plus a 15% service charge (yes, the receipt said it’s optional) is a bit over the top. Our bill came to over £65.00 (before wine). For this, I expect more from a cafe in London.
After hearing so much about Joe’s Cafe, we were just disappointed it was all just average. Overall, Joe’s Café serves average food (at best) in a nice atmosphere. This restaurant would be perfect for a quick lunch while you are out shopping. But if you are hoping for a laidback brunch or lunch with some amazing food, this might not be the place. Our rating for Joe’s Café is Almost Bombastic.
What I liked: The warm decor
What I didn’t like: The food was nothing special
Rating: Almost Bombastic
