Massimo Italian Seafood Restaurant - London, UK: Massimo Restaurant & Oyster Bar is located in Corinthia Hotel, London. Situated near The Embankment, this hotel is close to Trafalgar Square, Westminster and Covent Garden. An elegant Italian restaurant, Massimo specializes in seafood. The name of this restaurant refers to Chef Patron Massimo Riccioli.

Designed by David Collins, the huge and high-ceilinged Massimo was a visual treat. Massive chandeliers, towering Corinthian columns, intricate wall and floor mosaics, stitched leather seats and expensive furnishings added to the grandeur of this stunning restaurant. One wall of the restaurant was lined with huge windows that provided views of Northumberland Avenue. Though the crisp white tablecloths, fine china, crystal and big upholstered chairs made for an imposing setting, this seafood restaurant in London exuded enough warmth to make it intimate and relaxing.

We pondered over the extensive menu for some time before ordering for the night. We started out with the oysters which were priced at 15 pounds for half a dozen. They were beautifully presented and tasted even better than they looked. And to make these even more special, we had two glasses of rosé Champagne.

Next up was our starter. We shared an order of the Linguine àlla Carmelo, linguine done “Carmelo style” with clams, prawns, squid, mussels and fresh tomatoes. Divine, delicious, stupendous…these were the adjectives that came to my mind while eating this dish of al-dente pasta. For my main course, I had the Red Mullet and Razor Clams with tomatoes, oregano and black cabbage. Though I am not a huge fan of seafood (I’m more of a red meat lover), the red mullet was simply superb. Tender and fresh, yet meaty enough to fulfill my need for a solid main course. The clams were bite size bits of heaven and the tomato sauce was remarkable!

My partner had the Roasted Monkfish wrapped in aubergine with lentils, pumpkin, olives and orange sauce. Of course I had to try it… it just looked so appealing. Again, I am not a big fan of aubergine or olives, but after just one bite, I became an instant fan of Massimo’s Roasted Monkfish. It was served on a bed of lentils which gave it a hearty taste. It makes my mouth water by just thinking of it now!

We followed up this incredible dinner with Ginger Crème Brulee. If you love the sweet and salty combination, then I would highly recommend this dessert. It was served with a pear sorbet. Mixed with this, the crème brulée became all the more better.

The wine menu was extensive, with varieties of Champagne and sparkling wine, white wine, rose wine, red wine, sweet wine and even fortified wine. The emphasis was on Italian wines.

Service was as you would expect at an establishment of this caliber, stellar.

To say we were wowed would be an understatement. Massimo impressed and astonished us from the moment we stepped through its doors. It’s not often that we give a place a Fantastic Bombastic rating, but this seafood restaurant in London is one place that surely deserves our highest rating!

After dinner, I recommend a stop at Bassoon Lounge located in the hotel.

What I liked: Everything, right from the food to the ambience and service

What I didn’t like: Absolutely nothing at all

Rating: Fantastic Bombastic
