The Park Lane Hotel is a luxury hotel in Mayfair, central London. This hotel overlooks Green Park and is just a short stroll away from Buckingham Palace, Bond Street, Knightsbridge, London's West End theaters and a number of popular galleries. The famous Shepherd Market is located at the rear of this hotel.

Built in 1927, the Park Lane Hotel offers 305 tastefully decorated guest rooms and suites. Most of these rooms retain their original features such as fireplaces and four poster beds. Also, all the rooms feature a custom-designed Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed.

First Impression/Lobby: The Park Lane Hotel follows an Art Deco style. However, the hotel lobby was small and to be honest, unimpressive. I was expecting a much grander lobby that would have matched the hotel’s stunning exterior.

Reception: Apart from the young man who retrieved our bags from the taxi, the staff at this hotel was far from welcoming. Most of the time, the staff’s behavior bordered on rude. For a luxury hotel, they surely did not make a good first impression.

The Room: Our Executive Room was small. Luckily for us, it had a lovely view of the park. The room was well equipped and featured all modern amenities such as a direct dial telephone, HD Flat Screen television, Wi-Fi, mini bar and a safe. The Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed featured a plush top mattress done up in cotton sheets with blankets and duvets. The whole bathroom was made of marble, even the toilet, bathtub, shower and sink. Even though our Executive Room was small, for a couple of days it was adequate.

Room Service: Room service was available 24 hours a day. However, almost all the dishes were priced on the higher side. On one night, our dinner was delivered late. When the staff bought our dinner in, they just dropped it and left as fast as they could. The presentation was horrible and the food, mediocre. The food was definitely not worth those sky high prices.

Housekeeping: Our room was kept clean at all times. But the housekeeping staff failed to do turn down service even after we called and requested it to be done before we headed out to dinner on the first night of our stay. When we returned, the room was still not serviced.

As we were in our room all evening during the second night, we did not request the turn down service. And the staff did not stop by to do it either. These two instances have prompted us to give a huge negative for the housekeeping staff.

Concierge: The concierge service at this hotel was available 24 hours a day and was very good. In fact, the person in charge of concierge was one of the best parts of this hotel. He was prompt in returning our call and gave us good lunch and dinner recommendations.

Restaurant: The Palm Court serves an informal lunch and a sumptuous traditional afternoon tea in a beautiful art deco setting. The Citrus Restaurant and Café serves authentic Italian cuisine in a stylish atmosphere. Outside seating is available when the weather permits.

The Bracewells Restaurant serves a traditional English Buffet breakfast, again in an elegant art deco setting. The Piacetto Coffee Shop is ideal for a quick snack. This coffee shop offers a selection of coffee, fresh pastries and sandwiches.

Pool/Spa/Activities: The Park Lane Hotel had a 24 hour health facility consisting of a small workout room with the latest fitness equipment. An in-room spa and salon service was available on request. A business center and a number of meeting rooms were also available at this hotel.

Check-Out: Our check out was quick and simple as the bill did not have any issues.

Overall Impression: I am prepared to overlook the small rooms, after all this is London. However, the bad service from reception, housekeeping and room service was totally inexcusable in a reputed hotel like this. Moreover, the food was just about average. I give the Park Lane Sheraton a rating of Almost Not Bombastic.
