Calistoga Ranch - Napa Valley, CA - After having stayed in 2 other resorts in Napa, Calistoga Ranch was our last stop-over. The place is known for good service and the exceptional view of the valley that it offered. Also looked on for its spa facilities, Calistoga Ranch held a lot of promises that we wished to discover for ourselves. Nestled in the serene and secluded Upper Napa Valley, the resort was spread across 157 acres of lush oak-lined property. Bringing in elements of nature to create a getaway that took inspirations from the magnificence of the outdoors, Calistoga Ranch was a popular place for a holiday meant for pure relaxation and rejuvenation.

First Impression: We had a sense of serene peace as we entered the Calistoga Ranch. The lush beauty of the surrounding was breathtaking and one immediately felt into a relaxed holiday mood surrounded by the splendor of nature enhanced by rustic charm and pure luxury.

Reception and Lobby: We were greeted by the valet and bellman at the car who attended to our bags and ushered into the lobby. The lobby was small but made to look homely and comfortable with warm cream and orange colors bringing out the character of the room meant to relax in. The registration took no time at all and they were nice enough to take all the wine we collected during our stay at Napa from us to be placed in their temperature controlled storage room and have it shipped to our home. A perfect start of a great holiday. Soon we were on our way to our lodge, driven to it in a golf cart.

The Lodge: Our lodge, an Oak Creek Spa Lodge was separated into 2 different buildings attached by an outdoor ‘California living room’. There was one building with the master bedroom and master bath and the other building which housed the living room and half-bath. They also offered a fully stocked mini bar with soda, water, vitamin water, chardonnay, candy bars and granola bars, all for free!

The ‘California living room’ was on an open deck and was a place anyone would love to lounge around and relax in while taking in the splendor of the view. It had tables and chairs and leg-rests and a Jacuzzi that wasn’t very private in terms of view access. The bedroom had a comfortable large bed and was done in soft tones to enhance the natural lighting of the place. Paintings framed the walls and added to the ambience of style and leisure of the place. The master bath was fitted with 2 sinks, a shower/tub combo and a completely beautiful outdoor top-open shower that was designed with rustic-charm. Both the living room and the outdoor living area had a fireplace. Picture sitting near the fireside in open air with a book and a nice glass of wine! Sounds divine? Well that is exactly what it was. With a great view to add on to it, it made you wish that you could live here forever.

Room Service: The room service at Calistoga Ranch was faultless. With perfect service offered right from taking our delivery to setting-up our meal, we found no short-comings in their service. The food was just superb and really made our stay great.

Housekeeping: The flawless house-keeping was done professionally keeping the comfort of its guests as top priority. All the sprucing was done when you were away from the room so as not to bother you in between your private time.

Concierge: We contacted our concierge, Gregory, for all our queries. (See more about Gregory in our ‘Bombastic People’ section). He proved to be extremely helpful and gave us great suggestions of restaurant recommendation, the wineries we should visit and more. Gregory truly made our stay at Calistoga Ranch in Napa Bombastic!

Restaurant: The Lakehouse restaurant of Calistoga Ranch overlooked the Lake Lommel. The view wasn’t as splendid as we were led to believe, but the décor was beautiful. With an option to be seated either inside or outside, the Lakehouse was done in rich earth colors on the inside accentuated by base lighting and interesting frames. The outdoor deck offered seating where you could take in the fresh air and dine in the open for those with an inclination for nature. The food was all prepared with fresh organic local produce and celebrated the cuisine characteristic of Napa accompanied by a selection of great wines from around. We only got to dine at the restaurant for breakfast as we were pulled for time. But the food was amazing and made us wish we had more time to have lunch or dinner at the Lakehouse.

Pool/Spa/Activities: The pool at Calistoga Ranch proved to be a disappointment. Small and uninviting, the décor around the pool was dull and listless offering no great view of the surrounding. An overcast weather did nothing to help make this impression any better.

Calistoga is regaled as being one of the nation’s historic ‘spa towns’. The spa at Calistoga Ranch celebrated this claim and was tucked away in a wooded canyon in Napa. With soothing soaking pools that offered a view of the magnificent oaks, the spa offered organic treatments in private rooms. They also housed outdoor garden showers and private soaking tubs for the enjoyment of their guests. With healing mineral waters and an array of treatment, this was the perfect place to go to for a day of pure relaxation.

Calistoga Ranch also offered other amenities such as an avant-garde fitness center, a yoga deck and 140 acres of sprawling land that was dedicated for guests looking for activities like hiking etc.

Check-Out: With no problems with the bills, our check-out was easy and quick and soon we were on our way.

Overall Impression: The Calistoga Ranch offered us a truly amazing stay. From an amazing ambience that exuded of relaxation, unmatched service, great accommodation, delectable food and more, the stay gripped us with the feeling of not wanting to leave at all!
