Great Sushi - Not so Great Service
Restaurant Category : Japanese, Sushi
When we entered the trendy Douzo Sushi restaurant in Boston's Back Bay at lunchtime, we were greeted by a lively mix of business people - some who seemed to frequent the restaurant as well as several who were visiting the city for a conference that week. Its popularity and quality food have earned it recognition as 'Boston's Best Sushi' by the Improper Bostonian magazine in 2006.
The décor was very chic with modern wooden interiors decorated with warm lights all over. The bar, illuminated from within, was long enough to seat several people comfortably. The menu was great, and offered a modern Japanese cuisine with several hot and cold starters, entrees and delicious sushi and sashimi. A set lunch menu is also available. The sashimi and sushi was divine, my favorites being the Torched Style Salmon and the Uni Scallop Sushi. The Crunchy Roll with tuna and salmon was very good and the Dynamite Roll with spicy seafood salad was interesting. The wine list was carefully chosen with a wide selection of both new and old world wines. The selection of sake was also extensive.

When I arrived the service was excellent. We were very impressed at how attentive the staff was - until half-way through the meal! Mid-way the server started to make us feel as if we were overstaying our welcome and we felt like we were getting rushed out. Although 'Douzo' means 'please come in' in Japanese, we felt as if we were being asked to leave!
The food was great, décor impressive, but service disappointing. This led us to rate our experience somewhere between bombastic and not.
