Nirvana Indian Restaurant – New Orleans, LA: Situated down Magazine Street in New Orleans, LA, Nirvana Indian Restaurant is touted as the best purveyors of Indian cuisine in town. So we went out of our way to find it since we were in the mood for some good Indian food and there just were not many options for Indian in New Orleans

Our taxi ride to find Nirvana Indian Restaurant took 10-15 minutes and gave us an impromptu tour of the outskirts of New Orleans. Once at Nirvana we could see the tables and chairs set up on the covered porch, a perfect setup for those that want to dine al fresco.

Once inside Nirvana Indian Restaurant we took note of the chic Indian atmosphere, bright walls, tall ceilings and heavy Indian styled tables and chairs. It was a cross between traditional and new age and it all seemed to work perfectly.

After waiting for a waiter and then finally having to wave one down, our initial positive vibe of Nirvana Indian Restaurant was diminished. The Indian waiter was full of attitude and did nothing to make us feel welcome. We were hoping the food would compensate for his shortcomings.

The food at Nirvana Indian Restaurant is standard Indian fare with Boti Kebab Masala, Chicken and Lamb Biryani, Tandoori Chicken and Keema Naan among others.

We went with our standard Murgh Makhani and Chicken Biryani. The large pieces of chicken in my Murgh Makhani were tough and dry. The rice of my partner’s Biryani was definitely not fresh. This surely was not the best Indian we have ever had.

Though to be fair, this might be the best Indian in New Orleans, but that is because New Orleans just doesn’t have many options for Indian. Our rating for Nirvani Indian restaurant as a casual dining option is Between Bombastic and Not.
