The Green Well - Grand Rapids, MI | Restaurant Review
A Safe Bet but Not Wow...
Restaurant Category : American (New), American (Traditional), Bar, Gastropub
The Green Well Gastro Pub – Grand Rapids, MI: Located on Cherry Street in the new and ever evolving Cherry Hill Area of Grand Rapids, the Green Well Gastro Pub is a small restaurant pub with a warm local vibe and an environmentally conscious philosophy. A charming neighborhood restaurant with a big city feel, the Green Well puts haute cuisine in a trendy “green” bar atmosphere. The building and most of its interiors were fashioned from recycled materials and make use of florescent lighting, foam insulation, low flush toilets, and waterless urinals--all these while still maintaining a hip and casual ambiance.
Their wine and beer selection is extensive and includes microbrews and craft brews, some local Michigan beers, others from across the country. Servers do beer and wine flights and they are actually knowledgeable about what they are pouring; although when we were there, the overall service was quite slow.

The menu is diverse and includes sharing plates of dishes like Pork Pot Stickers, Baked Goat Cheese and Flash Fried Calamari—all perfect beer matches. Soups and salad selections are also abundant with usual and innovative items such as Waldorf Chicken Salad, Michigan Harvest Salad, and Seven Vegetable Quinoa. Sandwiches include Veggie Burrito, Cuban, Reuben, Grilled Ham and Cheese, and Kobe Burger. The variety of main dishes will suit almost any kind of taste: Barbequed Braised Pork, Fish Tacos, Mac and Cheese, Pot Roast, Chicken & Dumplings, and Green Well Pad Thai to name a few.
Outdoor seating is available but plan on standing in line if you want a table al fresco. The seats are worth it especially if the weather is nice.
For dinner, we had the BBQ Pork and the Chicken Philly Wrap—both delicious and satisfying but a tad high in cost (maybe that was the big city feel?). For a casual restaurant I would still highly recommend the Green Well Gastro Pub for the interesting concept, ambiance and good food; although for the relatively high price and slow service, I can only give it a rating of Between Bombastic and Not.
What I liked: BBQ Pork, the selection of local beers
What I didn’t like: Service was slow, prices high
Rating: Between Bombastic and Not
