A vacation is complete only if the hotel of your stay proves worthy of the anticipated relaxation and leisure. Having heard that Townsend Hotel is a member of the Preferred Hotel and Resorts, has been awarded a 4-star rating by Forbes, an AAA 4-Diamond Rating and many other such honors, we wanted to find out whether Townsend Hotel would score well in our cards. Located in Birmingham, Michigan, the hotel required a bit of a drive from the Detroit Airport to get to.

First Impression/Lobby: We were greeted by the valet quickly and professionally and he looked into all the aspects of getting our luggage sent to our room and attended to our car. The lobby was regal and very elegant with its pillars and gleaming floor. There was a beautiful center piece placed on a gorgeous wooden table underneath a chandelier which threw light around the room. Comfortable and plush couches fitted with soft cushions were placed throughout the lobby and there were beautiful showcases displaying delicate curios and more.

Reception: The check-in was quick and efficient and not lacking in anything at all. The young man who greeted us at the reception was warm and pleasant and made us feel welcomed right away. The bellman who escorted us to our suite, dressed in a black uniform with a smart matching hat, added a touch of style and sophistication to the Townsend Hotel. For a moment we felt like royalty being led to our room.

The Suite: The Luxury Suite that we had booked at Townsend Hotel was cozy and very easy on the eye. With brown patterned carpet and a beige speckled walled coloring, the warm tones of the room suite was soothing and welcoming. The couch in the living room was large and comfortable, and grey in shade. A green upholstered wing-back chair with floral prints set next to it, made for a nice accent piece to the living room set. The furniture was rich looking and antique in styling with dark-brown wooden hues. A mini-bar was enclosed in a built-in closet and offered choices of beverages and small eats. The living room at the Townsend Hotel also had a Phillips flat screen TV, a writing desk and choices of magazine for the visitors to flip through while resting on the couch. A small balcony with two chairs was also found though there wasn’t much of a view to take in.

From the living room, two French doors led to the bedroom. The bed was made of white-linen with a bed-throw that had floral print of mauve, green and blue. The drapes in the suite were made to match this bed-throw and gave the rooms a well-planned look. There was a comfortable and ready-to-sink into sofa-chair with an ottoman that was made for a cozy night of reading. The bedroom also had a small closet and was attached to a huge bathroom that was completely marbled.

The bathroom had one large sink and a tub/shower combo. All the products found in the bathroom of the Townsend Hotel’s suite were from Gilchrist & Soames.

Room Service: We ordered breakfast from room service and it was delivered right on time. To make it even better it was presented beautifully and the food was absolutely delicious.

Housekeeping: The housekeeping at the Townsend Hotel was efficient as far as we could judge. The room was very well maintained and the beds were turned down, inviting us to climb in for a good night’s rest.

Concierge: The concierge at the Townsend Hotel was well trained and gave us great dining recommendation of the Chow Chen. We were very impressed with their knowledge and professional air.

Restaurant: The Townsend Hotel had different choices of dining options for its guests. The Rugby Grille which has won the AAA-Four Diamond award is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers good food in a classical setting, The Corner offering a New York ambience offers light fares and drinks and is a popular night-spot, the Townsend Bakery offers baked goods like pastries, tortes etc and has its very own pastry chef and Afternoon Tea upholds the tradition of tea drinking and offers finger food for all.

Check-Out: The check-out at the Townsend Hotel was flawless as the was the rest of its services.

Overall Impression: The Townsend Hotel is an example as to how a well-functioning hotel should be and many high-end hotels can stand to take a leaf or two from their book. We enjoyed our stay enormously in spite of its location which makes it a bit inconvenient as it requires a long ride. But the perfect service and stellar accommodations will have us coming back for more. We rate the Townsend Hotel Bombastic.
