The Nam Hai Resort in Vietnam is an award winning resort that boasts of being amongst the foremost luxury resorts in the world. The ‘all villa’ resort is located on the pristine and beautiful Hoi An beach and offers 61 bedroom retreats and also houses 40 privately owned 2-3 bedroom residences, each with their very own private infinity pool. With an 18-inch Colin Montgomerie golf course, a great spa, fine cuisine and unprecedented service; the offer claims of Nam Hai promised us an experience full of luxury with superior service. Located about 40-45 minutes from the Da Nang airport in Vietnam, Nam Hai is regaled as the best luxury resort of Vietnam; we were about to find out how much of this claim was true.

First Impression/Lobby: As we had booked the pool villa package, we were received at the airport after customs by a resort employee and ushered to a Mercedes 12-seater van that was sent to pick us up. The driver welcomed us profusely and offered us towels and bottles of water as a complimentary welcome token which proved to be contrary because they were warm, not really helping us in a climate that already was sticky with humidity. We enjoyed a quiet uneventful drive to Nam Hai resort with the driver pointing out a few things about the area on our way. On arriving, we were greeted by the Villa Manager and the Assistant Manager of the property and taken immediately to our sea-facing pool villa (No.2210). We never got a chance to inspect the beautiful lobby of which we got a far glimpse of on entering. But it was designed as a large open gazebo with pagoda roofs. The architectural design of all the buildings drew inspiration from the temple-pagoda design famous in Vietnam.

Reception: Instead of having us wait at the lobby and complete the registration, Nam Hai had an ingenious system. They have butlers assigned to each villa exclusively who handled all the work, right from registrations and preparing for check-out to playing the role of a concierge and much more. All our whims and needs were looked into by this person and handled professionally and very efficiently. So he took care of all our registration work while we enjoyed the welcome drink and the refreshing wet towels handed to us at the villa, listening to his explanation of all our facilities.

The Suite: We accessed our villa at Nam Hai through a private courtyard. The entrance saw lush plants growing around a beautiful lotus pond that really set the feel of being in a tropical getaway. Our living room quarters had a big screen TV flanked by sofas that were lush and comfortable. A large 8-seater dining room was also fit into the room. Besides the corner sofas a long sofa was placed facing the TV for our use. Beautiful large French doors were fitted at the front and back of the living room opening into the outdoor living area and pool and the backyard. The view of the swimming pool and the gorgeous East Sea of Hoi An was completely breathtaking and set the most picturesque perception of a great holiday in swing. The living area was done in inky black with venetian blinds and roofs shaded so. This was offset by the walls, the cushions of the sofa and the soft violet lamp shades enhanced by a large colorful painting hung on the wall which brought in a spoken elegance to the room without being too loud.

The living quarters was attached to this room in a separate building. This housed the master bedroom and the bathroom. The bedroom was split into different levels of living area to make it more distinct and create a feeling of spaciousness and comfort. The color schemes were in black and white bringing in ample contrast and the curios set around done in different shades, the sofa and the cushion etc offset this contrast perfectly bringing in their own distinct hues. The entrance had a raised luxurious bathtub near a perfectly relaxing day-bed flanked by a work desk that had all the amenities one needed. Facing the work desk was a large comfortable white bed. The day-bed at the foot of the bed, faced the glass-doors giving you a view of the sea. A perfect place to lounge in and be lost in the view.

The swimming pool area had a table for four and four sun-beds; two of them facing the pool and the other two facing the sea. Both the living room and bedroom had two day beds fitted outside their doors. Nam Hai ensured that relaxation would be the main agenda on all of their guests’ schedules and did everything to cater to that.

A luxurious bathroom was found on the left side of the bathtub, separated from the bedroom by two wooden sliding doors. With twin sinks and closets facing each other, a shower stall, a private bathroom and a French door that opened out to an outside shower designed to exude a rustic charm, the bathroom had all the amenities to cater to all your whims.

Room Service: The service at was exceptional. Our butler dealt with all our queries and orders and did a great job of it all. They also will customize your orders even if it isn’t found in the menu. From placing the order, to setting up our meal to clearing away everything once we were done; our butler did it all. The orders were perfectly done and served always on time.

Housekeeping: The house-keeping staff at Nam Hai was quick and efficient and left no corners unturned. The staff did an outstanding job of sprucing up the place regularly and on-time.

Concierge: Needless to say, our butler was also our concierge. Talk about multi-tasking. The resort had a map of Hoi An with suggestions of restaurants that one could visit nearby. The area really doesn’t offer too many exciting things to do being very small in size, but we made a half-day trip to Da Nang and spent a few hours in Hoi An.

Restaurants: Nam Hai has two restaurants within the resort to cater to its guests. The Beach Restaurant adjacent to the pool overlooking the sea is open only for lunch and has a seating capacity for 108 people. Serving fresh seafood, grills and the local cuisine, this restaurant is a great place for a relaxed lunch amidst the wonderful view.

The Restaurant overlooking the water gardens and the ocean is open for breakfast and dinner. With a seating capacity for 148 people, The Restaurant has options for indoor and outdoor seating. Offering International and traditional Vietnamese cuisine, it is the perfect place to lounge in and have a great dinner accompanied by good conversation. There is also a bar located at the upper level of the restaurant that offers great cocktails, snacks and refreshments.

Pool/Spa/Activities: The resort has a total of 3 pools; one large main-pool, a lap pool and an adult pool. Since we were staying in a pool villa, we really never had a reason to go to the other pools, but we did check them out. The pools at Nam Hai were large and gorgeously maintained with splendid views all around.

The Spa at The Nam Hai is an award-winning facility famed for its serene and beautiful view and great facilities. With eight spa villas surrounded by lotus ponds, the private facilities has two spacious pavilions with both single and double massage beds and over-flow chromo therapy baths, an area for relaxation, steam showers and private changing rooms. There is also a retail section that offers you an array of beauty and spa products created specifically for The Spa at The Nam Hai.

The Health Club is found near the tennis and basketball courts. It has all the fitness equipment you could dream of. The health club also offers a steam room, a sauna and separate changing rooms for men and women. Near the club, you can also find Tennis, Badminton and Basketball courts for those looking for a quick game in between all the luxurious relaxation.

Check-Out: Our bill was handed to us the previous night for cross-checking by our butler. The check-out the next morning was a breeze and completed in no time at all.

Overall Impression: Beauty, refinement, luxury, impeccable service, a selection of activities; these are our impressions from the amazing stay we had at the Nam Hai resort. It definitely lived up to its claim of being the best luxury resort in Vietnam. We were pleased to rate Nam Hai Bombastic.
