Flight Information: British Airways - London (LHR) to Kuwait (KWI) – First Class Flight BA 157 The flag carrier airline of United Kingdom, British Airways is based and headquartered in Waterside near London Heathrow Airport. This British Airways flight from London to Kuwait was part of our “Round the World” ticket and it was actually the last flight of our trip. Flight time was about 5 ½ hours and it was our fourth British Airways flight during this trip. Check-In: We checked-in at the first class section of Terminal 5 and it was quick and easy. Needless to say, we were on our way to the Fast Track priority immigration and security line within minutes. Once we passed through these we headed to the Concord First Class lounge.

The Lounge: The lounge is located just steps away from the security line. You can see our review of British Airways first class Concord Room lounge here.

First Impressions: We were welcomed aboard and pointed to our seats. Unfortunately we had the old style cabin with the old first class seats and TV monitors. However, the cabin was clean and comfortable looking. As soon as we were settled in, pre-flight drinks were offered and newspapers and magazines were passed out. Also, amenity bags and lounge wear were handed out.

The Cabin: Our aircraft was a Boeing 747-400. The first class cabin had two rows of 2x2 in the middle (at the back of the cabin) and five seats on either side along the windows. If you are traveling with someone, seats 5E and 5F would be the best choice as they provide maximum privacy. If you are alone, 2A or 2K would be the seats you request.

The Flight (Service/Food/Drink): I ordered my dinner after having a quick look at the menu. Click here to see the full British Airways first class menu from flight BA 157 from London to Kuwait. I started with Cream of broccoli soup with toasted almonds. As soups on a plane go, this one ranked as one of the best. Creamy, flavorful and downright good, and a good start to dinner. For the main course, I had the British beef and baby onion with creamed mashed potatoes, curly kale and buttered baby carrots. With rich brown gravy, this dish was hearty. And for a piece of meat prepared on a plane, I really couldn’t find anything to complain about. However, if I were in a nice steakhouse, I would not be quite so forgiving. But at 30,000 feet, it was pretty good.

For dessert, I tried the White velvet panna cotta with warm winter berries and shortbread, but I am not a big fan of panna cotta… even when it is really good. I wished I had remembered the hot chocolate with warm chocolate chip cookies from the Bistro section of the menu. I also had the Howard Park Scotsdale Shiraz which was far from impressive, especially since this would be my last wine for a while (Kuwait is a dry country, no alcohol is sold). It seems that BA always stocks cheaper wines on this sector.

Since it was a short flight (especially compared to the Singapore to London flight I had just flown 17 hours earlier), I could only squeeze in a short nap. Before long, it was time for breakfast. Having experienced below average egg preparations for breakfast on earlier BA flights, I decided to skip them altogether and just opted for a fresh fruit plate and a fruit smoothie.

Service was great and very attentive. Helen, our main Cabin Crew attendant was simply a joy. However, we never got to watch the song and dance that she had promised us!

Arrival: We arrived on time. Our bags were some of the first ones on the luggage belt. I love it when priority tags actually work and we get our bags fast.

Overall Impression The biggest negative (and it’s a big one) was the old aircraft. After flying in the British Airways first class cabin a number of times and then ending up in their old cabin was a major minus. But Helen’s great attitude and the service from the Cabin Crew helped to make up for it. We give British Airways flight 157 from London to Kuwait a Bombastic rating.
