Emirates Airlines first class lounge - Dubai, UAE: As with most things in Dubai these days, the Emirates Airlines first class lounge is a truly luxurious experience. Located on the second floor of the Emirates terminal 3, the lounge is huge with extra high ceilings and three separate seating areas, each uniquely designed to suit different tastes and moods—Arabian, Asian, and Mughal. Plants and water fountains are strategically placed in throughout, giving the entire lounge an open, welcoming, and harmonious feeling. Every area also has different seating options. Some are couches for stretching out comfortably and reading a book, while others are tables and chairs for casual business meetings or for having a drink or snack. They have a full-service restaurant with quite a varied menu that caters to different tastes and preferences, having something for every traveler from around the globe. From what we ordered, however, (a simple club sandwich) the quality was less than impressive and in line with the usually mundane food airports the world over are infamous for. Fortunately, the Emirates wait staff was quick to serve us once we got seated, and were truly warm and accommodating, making us feel at once relaxed. Happily, we settled with a decent glass of wine (their list that day offered two whites and three reds).

We had an almost 6-hour layover and were really hoping to get a good long nap in a sleeping room. To our disappointment, the Emirates first class lounge did not have any, which is odd for a lounge this extravagant. They do have showers, however, which is great especially after a long trip. They also have a number of computers available for use in the business area, free WiFi access throughout the lounge and tons of easily accessible electrical outlets.

The first class lounge also has its own spa, Timeless Spa, which offers a number of complimentary services (I relaxed with the 15 minute foot massage). Many other services are offered for a fee including beauty treatments, manicures, pedicures, and hairstyling services, but the first treatment is supposed to be complimentary.

Overall, our experience at the Emirates Airlines First Class Lounge was relaxing and while we were not blown away by the décor; we were even less than impressed with the bland food and lack of sleeping area. Rating, Between Bombastic and Not.

What I liked: Atmosphere, service, ample electrical outlets

What I didn't like: Food, lack of sleeping room

Rating: Between Bombastic and Not
