Northwest Airlines - Detroit to Las Vegas - Flight NW 1189:

Check-In: Using the internet the night before my flight I checked in on-line, printed my boarding pass and was ready to go. Upon arrival at the airport, I dropped the bags at curbside check-in so the whole check-in process took mere minutes. Because we were flying First Class, there was no charge for using curbside check-in; however, a gratuity was still in order.

The Lounge: Even though I am a Northwest WorldPerks Gold Member and was flying First Class it was not enough to get me into Northwest's lounge. Luckily, I had my British Air Gold card that allowed us entry into the lounge.

The lounge is spacious and well laid out so there are many little areas that are perfect for relaxing in peace and quiet. The selection of food and drinks however are about as cheap and uninspiring as Northwest could get, I think. Prepackaged cheese slices and crackers just do not make me feel like I am anywhere special. The lounge definitely is not a place to go for a good meal or drink. Peace and quiet, yes. Dinner and a drink, do not even think of it.

Northwest Airlines airline flight review continues below.

The Flight (Service/Food/Drink): I do not recall ever being as disappointed as I was on this flight to Las Vegas. The flight time was well over four hours and the flight left at 7:00 PM and seeing I had booked a First Class ticket, I had planned on a nice dinner or at least a dinner to help pass the time.

To my amazement, the only thing they offered was a ten-cent bag of chips or nuts. I asked the flight attendant about this and she said she was not sure why there wasn't a dinner but apologized and said there was nothing she could do. I ended up buying $5.00 snack pack that was for sale in the Economy Class. Shortly after that, the attendant returned the $5.00 and said she wished there was more she could do.

Overall Impression: I went into this flight with high expectations but Northwest sadly let me down. It seems that as Northwest continues to cut cost wherever and however they can, they will continue to negatively affect the passenger's comfort and experience.

As I look back at this flight on Northwest from Detroit to Las Vegas, I ask myself if I would fly it again and I decided I would, only if I could not find a different direct flight.
